One of Westhampton Beaches former students is currently playing volleyball at SUNY Geneseo and she is a freshman. Her name is Meagan Johnson and she was a 4 year varsity volleyball player for Westhampton. Meagan will be taking a look at your serving clips and she will be giving you some tips in the next few days.

Volleyball Rubric

Please take a look at the following rubric so that you understand how you will be graded.

Volleyball Serving Rubric

One point is given for each Achieved:

1.         Toss: Toss should be 2 feet above your head and should land every time
directly in front of your dominant arms foot, approximately one foot from the body.

2.         Ball Position: Hold the ball in the non-dominant hand, with the arm completely extended, elbow locked. Pull elbow on dominant hand back to the bent position as  if pulling an arrow back, hand should be at ear level or a little above ear. Place hitting hand on top of the ball.

3.         Step: Step with the foot opposite of the dominant hand.

4.         Hitting: You should contact the ball above the head, not at the ear. Use an open hand and strike the ball with the palm and heel of the hand.

5.         Follow Through: Drag dominant side toe at the same time as dominant hand
makes contact. Follow through arm should fall straight down to hip.

Extra Credit:

5 points: Critique in writing your video serves and make proper corrections on site.

Hi everyone, please take a look at your serve and write about some corrections that you can make. I have left a youtube link for a girl from college demonstrating the proper technique of the overhand serve. Take a look at that and compare it to your serve and let me know what your thoughts are. Please finish your post with your name so I can differentiate each posting. Thanks Mr. Parry
